Antagonist auditions

Actors interviews - Male role

These are the interviews, which we produced to see who would be right for the part of the antagonist. Our antagonist has to be well built, broad shoulders and would have to be taller than the victim so that the victim would be seen as more vulnerable and unable to defend herself.
We decided to audition male actors who were keen to be in our film to play our antagonist as we had an ideal picture in our heads, which we just had to reflect on camera. The male antagonist would have to perceive the role as realistic as they can as we need it to be believably so the audience would relate the circumstances occurring on screen. As you can see, we auditioned two people due to having contrasting looks and styles of acting, as we believed auditioning lots of male actors, would be harder to find our perfect role for our antagonist. Stereotypically males are said to be stronger, which is why we needed our antagonist to be well built to over power our female actor.
Ben's genreally appearance would probably be more ideal than mason's as he is taller, broader shoulders and is more well built. This would mean our antagonist would look older than they actually are due to these appearances and the use of costumes we are discussing to use. However Mason, could be ideal for the antagonist part as his appearances or being fairly tall, is ideal height which we had thought the antagonist should be.
Furthermore, they both seemed very intrigued and interested within being in our film, which was perfect as we needed keen people who are up for anything to be in ours. While we were interviewing them we saw many aspects of their personalities, especially Ben's, as when he made us laugh, we believed he would be easier to work with as he can stay in role but also have a laugh. Mason seemed very confident in doing high quality and believable accents and emotion, where Ben struggled on doing a few of these accents. We included these accents, to see how determined they were to achieve the part and to see how good of actor they were.
After discussing their weakness and strengths, we took everything into account and decided to give the part to Ben. We chose Ben as we believed that he wanted it more, as when he was struggling with accents, he tried and tried until he could do it,which shows determination, hard-work and he could actually do very believable accents!
We decided  not to go for Mason as the main antagonist because his personality did not shine through as well as Ben's did, his characteristics and appearance may have no suited the role and that we hadn't fully decided which film we were going to choose as we were stuck between two films, which both needed antagonists but different samotypes ( body shapes) and characteristics. Also we needed someone who would dominate the woman to emphasis how vulnerable she has, which due to Mason's height, may have not been ideal for this part. Although Mason was very confident showing a range of acting skills we believed Ben would be the most ideal actor to feel the shoes of our male antagonist.
In doing these auditions, it allowed us to find a perfect person for the role of our antagonist as we gained a better understanding on the way the characteristics of the actor can determine how real the performance would be on and off camera. It also gave us chance to see if our idea of our antagonist could be found and if it would be ideal for our film, which in this case our image of the antagonist was found. These auditions also allowed us to experience how auditions work and how important they are to producing the opening scene of a film. The auditioning process was also fun to be involved in as we saw our image of the antagonist being found in front of us and was the best way to discover and find our perfect candidate for our film.
